The policy of America in the post World War II era has always been that our enemies not simply respect us, but fear us as well. American military might has been an incredible deterrent to attacks from those who mean us harm. In the 1970’s under Jimmy Carter, our enemies no longer feared us, and as a result we had to suffer through the Iranian Hostage Crisis until Reagan was elected. Then they feared us again.

Oh, we are still the mightiest military in the world, yes, but our enemies know we won’t pull the trigger. Russia knows the cowardice of Obama, and so to drive that point home Putin has started doing the unthinkable.
